چکیده

The rising threat of Plasmodium falciparum resistance to Monotherapies has prompted the world health organization (WHO) 2006 guidelines recommend use different anti-malarias. In this study, anti-malaria and hypoglycaemic activities Diosgenin, a potent, yet poorly reported saponin was investigated on P. inoculated Alloxan-Induced, Diabetic Wistar Rats. Fort two (42) adult male wistar rats between 100g 150g were procured, acclimatized (for weeks), grouped into seven six (6) per group. While Group 1 (Normal control) received normal rat chow water ad libitum, groups 2 – 4 no treatment (untreated), 10 mg/kg body weight anti-diabetic Metformin 25 diosgenin respectively after inducing diabetes mellitus (DM) with alloxan monohydrate; whereas, 5-7 (all malaria infected) untreated (negative control), 56 coartem respectively. Following period, blood samples obtained assayed for fasting sugar, packed cell volume (PCV) total white count (TWBCC). From result, exposed showed lowered PCV values than control observed improvements in (significant at p < 0.05) (insignificant) groups. Also, diabetic, treated an insignificant reduction sugar levels compared control, even though change apparently improved Again, TWBCC caused notable decrease treated, signified huge recovery rats. Corroborative studies other systems is recommended.

Hypoglycaemic and Hypolipidaemic Effects of Withania somnifera Root and Leaf Extracts on Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Rats

Withania somnifera is an important medicinal plant, which is used in traditional medicine to cure many diseases. Flavonoids were determined in the extracts of W. somnifera root (WSREt) and leaf (WSLEt). The amounts of total flavonoids found in WSREt and WSLEt were 530 and 520 mg/100 g dry weight (DW), respectively. Hypoglycaemic and hypolipidaemic effects of WSREt and WSLEt were also investigat...

Hypoglycaemic and anti-diabetic activity of stem bark extracts Erythrina indica in normal and alloxan-induced diabetic rats.

The objective of the study is to investigate the alcoholic (AlcE) and aqueous (AqsE) extracts of stem bark of Erythrina indica (Papilionaceae) for hypoglycaemic effects in normal and diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced in rats by a single dose administration of alloxan (120 mg/kg, i.p.) or by injecting dexamethasone (10 mg/kg, i.p.) for 10 days. In normal rats, AlcE and AqsE had significantly d...

Calotropis procera Root Extract\'s Anti-diabetic and Hepatoprotective Therapeutic Activity in Alloxan-Induced Pancreatic Toxicity in Wistar Rats

Background: Studies suggest that herbal remedies may serve as functional anti-diabetic agents. This study investigated the therapeutic role of Calotropis procera aqueous-methanol root extract in hyperglycaemic and hepatopathy disorders in Wistar rats after exposure to alloxan. This compound destroys pancreatic β-cells and produce diabetes in experimental animals. Methods: Spectrophotometric m...

Attenuation of Diabetic Nephropathy by Carvacrol through Anti-oxidative Effects in Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Rats

Background and Objectives: Diabetes, a common metabolic disorder, is prevalent in many countries. Nephropathy is a main debate’s side effect. Role of oxidative stress is well known in induction of diabetic nephropathy while carvacrol is a potent anti-oxidant that might attenuate oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to explore the effect of carvacrol in d...

Anti-Diabetic Activity of Terminalia catappa Linn. Leaf Extracts in Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Rats

In view of suggested anti diabetic potential, effect of aqueous and cold extracts of Terminalia Catappa Linn (Combretaceae) leaves, on fasting blood sugar levels and serum biochemical analysis in alloxan-induced diabetic rats was investigated. All the extracts of Terminalia Catappa produced a significant anti diabetic activity at dose levels of 1/5th of their lethal doses. Concurrent histologic...
